A Broken String of Gold - Pastel on paper - 15X38
This work reflects a satellite image of rock formations Morocco. The ribbons in the image are produced by tectonic folding. Text on the work references a poem by Dennis Saleh, describing the desert. Saleh writes in one verse - The sky and traces of color pass down through the soil, into the deep mixes of shadows below, where they rest, like sun, at the end of the day. There are also references to the ribbon-like features in the satellite image. Read Saleh's writing in full on the Poetry Foundation's website.
