Emil Gilels' Rose-Gold Heart 13X40 Pastel and pencil on paper

Emil Gilels' Rose-Gold Heart is based on a performance of Domenico Scarlatti's Sonata K533 by Emil Gilels himself.

The text on this work refers to the structure of the sonata, including harmony, themes, cadences and many other elements of the music. The colors of the harmonic pattern of the music have been enhanced with the colors of light near a river bank in Missouri, my home. From left, the slow-moving green water bends a corner where light from the sun, low in the sky, comes behind trees on the bank, and hits the shimmering surface.
