Sky and Stars - Scarlatti Sonata K11
Sky and Stars K11 is based on Domenico Scarlatti's Sonata K11.
This Sonata requires that the pianist cross left hand over right hand to reach the highest notes of two over-lapping melodies. The result of this technique is that the high notes seem "plucked" like a violinist might pluck a string.
The narrowest bands of color in the painting represent these melody notes as stars in a composite image of the nebula NGC 281, a nebula in Cassiopeia, which combines both Xray data in blue and optical data in red and orange.
