Solar Prominence is one of several works based the very simple harmonic pattern of This Land is Your Land by Woody Guthrie. The surface of the sun is a landscape that we can only see by carefully shielding our eyes with solar filters, sometimes blocking up to 99.999% of the light. This pastel painting references the colors of a solar prominence viewed with filtered light. Every good thing we experience is the result of the Sun, and it binds all of us together with gravity. This painting has a companion work, Moon and Morning Star, representing day and night.
